01. Information we collect

We collect information you provide directly: your email address when you subscribe to our newsletter or submit a contact form, and your name and message when you write to us.

We also collect limited technical data automatically: your IP address (anonymised), browser type, pages visited, and time spent — using privacy-respecting analytics. We do not use tracking pixels or build individual user profiles.

We do not collect payment information. There are no paywalls or purchases on this site.

02. How we use your information

Your email address is used only to send you our newsletter, The Saturday Letter, and occasional editorial announcements. We will never use it for advertising or share it with third parties for marketing.

Contact form submissions are read by our editorial team and used solely to respond to your enquiry. We retain them for up to 12 months before deletion.

Aggregated analytics data (never individual) helps us understand which topics resonate and improve the site.

03. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies that fall into two categories:

Essential cookies — required for basic site functionality (session security, CSRF protection). These cannot be disabled.

Analytics cookies — help us measure traffic and improve content. You can decline these using the cookie notice.

We do not use advertising cookies, retargeting cookies, or social media tracking cookies.

04. Data sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share it with third parties except in these limited circumstances:

• With our email delivery provider, for sending newsletters (they act as a data processor under our instructions)
• If required by law, in response to a valid legal request
• To protect the rights and safety of our readers and editorial team

05. Data retention

Newsletter subscriber emails are retained for as long as you remain subscribed. Upon unsubscribing, your address is removed within 30 days. Contact form messages are deleted after 12 months. Analytics data is aggregated and anonymised; raw logs are not retained beyond 90 days.

06. Your rights

Under GDPR and equivalent legislation, you have the right to: access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; request deletion ("the right to be forgotten"); object to processing; and data portability.
